Deep Half-Guard Sweeps
4-Part Advanced Lesson -- Bernardo Faria demonstrates a few of his patented sweeps: Transition to Deep-Half when your opponent flattens you out with Under-Hook & Head-Control from Half-Guard; grab onto their pants from the outside and reach in between their legs with your inside arm to help scoot yourself farther underneath of their hips. [4:07] If your opponent won't allow you to fully enter your Deep-Half position because they're checking your hips with their free-knee, feed their lapel through into your hand that was holding their pants on the same-side, and pass your bottom arm to the outside and grab onto their other pant leg. Once you've made the grip on the outside for 'Half' Deep-Half, you can release their leg from your own and bridge strongly for the sweep. [7:56] If your opponent triangles their legs together to prevent you from reaching inside and in between their legs for the Deep-Half, switch your feet around their legs and pry open their lock. Once you've settled into the Deep-Half by reaching through their legs and securing their lapel, continue with the bridging attack into a sweep on top. [10:31] There are multiple options for preventing your opponent from passing when you attempt to unlock their defensive figure-four; if you cannot readily uncross their feet with yours, at the very least block their leg with your far outside-foot as you look to pass off their lapel.
