3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo addresses Hand-Fighting for a Swing-Single: When wrestling, you ideally want to minimize how much time you spend below your opponent, even when attempting a takedown or escaping a ride. Avoid shooting for a High-Crotch in grappling because it exposes your neck, back, and arm for attack. Marcelo considers the Swing-Single a great option for grapplers who don't want to end up on bottom if countered. Pick up your opponent's leg and immediately look to Run-the-Pipe for the finish. There is always a risk involved with any attack, but typically it will be harder for your opponent to counter your Single with a counter-throw (Sumigaeshi, Obitorigaeshi, Uchimata, et al.) and/or a submission (e.g Guillotine, Kimura). [03:44] If you are clinched with your opponent, duck under your opponent's Collar-Tie by lifting their elbow as you circle away from the leg you wish to grab. [05:41] If you cannot find your opponent's wrist before your shot, you can let them grab your arm and still go for the takedown. Always force your opponent's hands away from your shot so that you don't encounter an Underhook or Headlock to stop you.
