Americana from Side Control
1 Part Lesson -- Paul expertly explains how to implement the 'Americana' Shoulder-Lock from Side Control: Switch your base from the square-on Side Mount into Kuzure-Kesagatame (or Modified Scarf-Hold), collecting the opponent's elbows on both sides. Pummel your hand inside the opponent's far-forearm, and return back to the kneeling position, but this time delivering weight down on the wrist to pin it to the floor. Place your elbow against the opponent's neck (being careful not to knock your partner's head) and grip the wrist without encircling your thumb. Weave your free hand under the opponent's far-elbow and grip your own wrist. Rev your hands with a reverse-throttle motion to secure the arm, placing the pinkie edge of the opponent's hand on the mat, and slowly begin dragging the opponent's hand towards his or her feet for the tap. Other names for this submission include; The Paintbrush, Top-Wristlock, Figure-Four Armlock, Bent Armlock, Keylock, and Udegarami.
