“Cartwheel” Escape vs Omoplata → “Somersault” Escape vs Omoplata
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo escapes the Omoplata and describes why offense is better than defense: [I] Before your opponent has a chance to sit up over top and grasp your back for the finish, try to hide your arm on his far hip and cartwheel your legs across to the opposite side. Make sure to land in good base and hold his head to prevent him from inverting underneath and attacking again. [II] If your opponent rises up and blocks your legs with his body, and you cannot pick him up or slide your arm free, raise your knees up off the mat and tuck your head, placing both shoulders on the mat in a roll. If you can face your opponent after the roll, do so; if not, ending up on bottom is much better than tapping out while trying to keep the top position. Saúde!
