Breaking Gi Grips from Standing → Single Leg Takedown → Throw Defense
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo counters a strong judoka's grip: [I] If your opponent grabs behind your back while standing, grab your own hand and hammer it off from the inside by twisting your entire body. If this doesn't loosen his grip, make a grip on his belt and keep your hips at a distance. [II] If your opponent tries to bring your down with Ashiwaza, drop down to the mat and grab his leg as it goes to attack your base. Come up on the single but maintain your distance to avoid the Uchimata. [III] Keep your opponent's foot in between your legs to avoid Haraigoshi or Hizaguruma; stay low on his leg and not up close on his hips to avoid the toss.
