2 Part Technique - Your opponent may offer up his neck for the Triangle Choke if he attempts to break your Closed Guard by underhooking one of your legs with his arm while kneeling. Simply relock your guard with his arm outside and your leg resting on top of his shoulder. In this situation, deal with crossing his inside arm across your body first, and then create the finishing angle by holding your shin against the back of his neck, and shifting your hips to the outside by pushing off of his hip or even the mat. Once your heel is passed his shoulder or at least even with it, lock the figure-four around his neck and tricep, making sure to keep your foot flexed. You can actively hunt for the Triangle rather than wait for your opponent to make a mistake by breaking down his posture, and shoving his wrist down the middle of your guard as you relock high on his shoulder. One tip that may help locking the figure-four is to make sure your knee that is on top of his shoulder, is at least level if not higher than the crown of his head; if it is lower, even with the proper angle, it will prove difficult to lock and finish the submission.
