Marcelo teaches how to properly break grips with and without posture from Butterfly-Guard: When your opponent has an opportunity to firmly secure a Collar-Grip, it can become quite difficult at times to remove the problem expediently; therefore, one should dedicate multiple limbs towards addressing their hand in order to clear their control before things get worse. Grab onto your opponent's sleeve and drive the palm of your hand into a stretched flat piece of the fabric. Place your feet against your opponent's hips to help yank your chest away while using both hands to pull off their grip. If your opponent has long arms, you may need to walk your feet higher up towards their shoulder in order to generate sufficient force. If your opponent has you flat on your back with a Collar or Lapel-Grip, adjust your pull slightly laterally while bringing your knees and feet inside to help keep or make distance. Oftentimes, it will help to tuck your hand underneath your opponent's wrist from the outside-in to gain enough purchase against their control for the strip.
