Back Escape from Turtle Position
Advanced Lesson Part 3 of 3 -- Marcelo takes a calculated risk to escape the back: Sometimes your opponent will be ready to cover your hips and place their hooks inside if you roll from Turtle when they are well-composed and behind your with Seat-Belt Control; if you try to roll away without preparing ahead of time, you may end up getting crushed on bottom in an even worse position than before. This would be an indication to take a greater risk towards your escape by reaching for your opponent's leg during your roll as opposed to later after surfacing on top. Over-Hook your opponent's thigh with your near-side arm and use it to help anchor yourself above your opponent. When you have a chance, immediately release your hand from defending their choking-arm and switch for their captured leg; connect your hands together to help twist yourself and face your opponent. Remember not to pull your opponent's back up off the mat while twisting over to take top position.
