Defending Back-Attacks from the Front Head-Lock Position
Lesson Part 2 of 2 -- Marcelo evades his opponent's transition toward his back while underneath their sprawl: When your opponent tries to run behind to claim control over your back, try to capture their near-side leg into a Single for a sweep/takedown or a recovery into the Half-Guard. Don't make the costly mistake of grabbing the opponent's far-leg; if you try for a High-Crotch/Crackdown, you can get caught in an Arm-Trap from the Back or the Crucifix. Instead, keep a hold of your opponent's arm and quickly post with a free hand as you build yourself up off the mat in base with the Tripod-Position. Once on your feet, you can look to attack your opponent's leg, escape back to standing neutral, or pull guard with control. If your opponent makes it around to your back, hold onto their arm to defend the choke and pull them over your shoulder like a slow version of Ippon Seoi-Nage aka the One-Armed Shoulder Throw.
