Marcelo has his students start on each other's backs with the grips for the Double Lapel Choke ("Sliding" Collar Choke, Send-Away Collar Choke, Double Lapel Choke, Rear Lapel Choke, Okuri-Eri-Jime, et al.) already made at the beginning of each timed round. The pairs must also start in a neutral back control, i.e. both sitting upright, or with a slight weight advantage for the defender by reclining back on top of the attacker. Marcelo insists that this particular specific training will help remind students which way they need to move their body to avoid the choke quite expediently. If one does move the wrong way against a skillfully played choke, they will notice the effects immediately.
