Being a Good Partner for Sequences
Marcelo requests that his students drill techniques taught in class with a common partnership. Each partner must perform as an Uke or receiver, that gives live feedback during a drill. They cannot resist completely, otherwise their partner may not be able to incorporate the technique into their game. Conversely, they cannot act too complacently, or else their partner will not be able to predict certain connections related to the movement. An Uke must act accordingly, giving the correct looks that one might see in a real match but still allow their partner to act freely and make choices. This kind of drilling is the only way to get better at practicing a sequence that will lead you to a submission.
