“One-Armed” Rear Naked Choke → “Straight Choke” Variation
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo never cranks the jaw; here's why: [I] Starting from Seatbelt, if your opponent's last line of defense against the RNC is his tucked chin, you can't just wrap around his face and squeeze; sometimes you will get the tap, but the best practice is the one which allows you to get the tap regardless of your opponent's pain tolerance. Sneak the blade or your wrist under the chin until you can clamp down on the shoulder and then, pull your elbow back across the throat using your fingers as an anchor/fulcrum. [II] When your opponent is so strong that the one-armed variation isn't working, immediately look to apply Straight Choke Variant, by releasing the hooks, running N/S, and clasping your hands together in a Gable Grip.
