2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo sets up two submissions from Side-Mount: Even though you are passed your opponent's guard, you shouldn't wait for them to set-up an escape, reversal, or possibly a submission. If you don't have an Under-Hook to help pin down your opponent in Side-Control, you can use the false sense of security your opponent may have to help maneuver them into a finish. Use your arms and chest to help push your opponent's far-arm low and away from protecting their neck; begin taking an angle around their near-side shoulder towards the North/South Position. When you sense that your opponent's isn't tucking their chin or turning to face you, drop down onto their throat with your armpit and seize the North/South Choke. Lay in parallel with your opponent's axial skeleton and stay low as you drop your deltoid onto their throat for the tap. [04:50] If your opponent is defending the N/S-Choke, and sense a way out via turning up onto a Single-Leg, let them slowly turn on their side as you yank their Under-Hook upward by the elbow and step over into a Reverse Technical Mount (Reverse S-Mount, Marcelo-Mount, Monoplata, et al.). Keep atop of your opponent and pinch your legs together to help hold the position while you sit off to the side of your opponent for the Spiral Arm-Bar (Ude-Hishigi-Hizagatame, Under-Armbar, et al.). Sit upright keeping your leg heavy across the opponent's chest as you lean into the extended arm and pull your knee into the back of the elbow towards subluxation. If your opponent tries to turn their wrist to escape hyperextension, you may capture it with your hands and fall-back for a more classical approach to finishing the Arm-Lock.

Using the chest is so much more powerful and effective then the hands. I fake trying to get a Kimura then I whip the right arm back to the north/south. The hardest thing to mimic is shoulder pressure, of course, but as Coach says, 100% not needed.

Lost a bit of mobility in one arm and leg in a car accident years ago; this is such a go to move for me. Every time I catch someone, I always hear, “ marcelo!” . So glad to be part of this mginaction and the academy when I go home to visit family. In Uruguay now, but deep into this mginaction. See everyone
