2 Part Technique - The North South Choke is the solution when you pass the opponent's guard and they don't try to escape. The opponent will only hold their arms in tight and defend against your armbars or other submissions that require that kind of space. Now, if the opponent does try to escape and refuses to stay on his back, their neck is exposed for the Guillotine from Side Control to Guillotine from Mount.

What does Marcelo do, when they block your north south choke, with their chin? Thanks.

Not Marcelo, but it depends on if he gives you the arm or not. This guy is trying to knee-elbow escape and keeping his elbows tight. Plus, we're assuming its a big guy you wouldn't be able to forcefully pry an elbow open on. The Darce is more favorable when the bottom man is trying to underhook escape.

Marcelo, what do you think about the darce choke instead of guillotine when opponent turns on his side?
