Sweeping from 50/50
3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo warns his students about the dangers inherent to playing from or against the 50/50 Guard: When you practice the Tilt Sweep from the Seesaw-Position, make sure to clear your entangled leg towards the outside so as to not have your partner/opponent land on top of your foot and possible injure it. [02:57] As the partner falling backwards from the sweep, don't strain you knee by extending your leg; bend your knee when you take the sweep so that your opponent doesn't land against the side of your joint and induce harm. [06:26] Don't leave your foot close to your opponent's armpit when attempting to clear or pass the 50/50. Also turn your body away from the opponent but avoid turning so far that you give positioning for a Kneebar. It's best to practice avoiding the position altogether if you are worried about accidents or aren't confident in scoring off the position. You can build up experience in battling from the 50/50 in training but it's suggested that you proceed with caution.
