3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo escapes the Guillotine: If your opponent launches an attack against your neck while you are kneeling in front of their guard, try and stop them from making a strong connection; interfere as best you can with your hands to break apart the lock before it endangers your neck. Do this while sitting back heavy into your base to avoid getting snapped forward. Break apart the grip so that you can slip your head free or at the very least tuck your chin to hide your throat. [04:30] If your opponent happens to pull you forward, run to the safe side; always move towards the side opposite of your head. If he or he catches either of your legs, still drop your hips down on the side opposite of the side of the choke. [09:42] Work against the hands after you've transitioned to the safe-side. If you free your leg from Half Guard, don't let your opponent scramble up with your head still caught inside; stay on top and work to remove your head from the grip. Marcelo has his students drill this position with live training starting from the Front Headlock Position.
