Double Belt Control → Turning Pass vs Half Guard
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo uses a questionably illegal tactic to pass: Feed your opponent's ankle into the Quarter Mount from his Open Guard and secure your hands on his belt. According to the rules of the IBJJF, placing two hands on the belt simultaneously may warrant a foul; however, this is generally cited as a means to inhibit passivity and avoid the act of stalling. If you actively engage in working toward a pass, the Double Belt Control can help pull yourself to the Half Mount for an Underhook. Get pass the bottom knee with your legs and pummel for at least the far elbow to work toward a better control for passing the Half Guard. [II] If your opponent frames before you can pummel the Underhook, try twisting over and threading your other arm through for a Reverse Underhook. Execute the Turning Pass with this control and follow-up with a run to North/South to establish the top position.
