2 Part Lesson — Marcelo accentuates the neutralization of attacks after hes opens the Closed Guard: [I] The degree of freedom of your hands is directly correlated to your ability to pressure open your opponent's Closed Guard; if he has your sleeves, it will be much more difficulty to direct your energy towards his knee after standing up. If necessary, incrementally transfer your hands up the length of his pants until you can safely and firmly make a grip to pressurize his guard. Once open, immediately drop your base and protect yourself from the next guard transition. If he opts for De-La-Riva Guard, point your knee to the outside to avoid the Deep Hook, and keep his other foot off of your hip and knee. Make grips on his lapels to help pull yourself tight and take away opportunities to entangle your arms with Spider-Hooks. Cross your knee onto his DLR-Hook and Double Over both of your legs into Side Control. [II] If your opponent keeps his leg on the outside too high for you to cross your far leg, step around it and fall into Half Guard where you can look for Over/Under Control and pass.
