3 Part Technique - Use Hand Fighting to prevent the opponent from establishing any control. If the opponent steps inside when you are not ready for the attack, just push away to reset the position. If the opponent decides to pass on his knees instead, you are in position to start working Hook Sweeps from Butterfly. Use your foot to keep the opponent at a distance and establish a control needed to use all Hook Sweeps.

This class is so incredible its the essence and basics of the butterfly guard that MArcelo uses to setup everhything. I needed this class so, so bad for my game. I am going to watch this and practice it as much as possible to get these basic principles of the butterfly guard ingrained into my game. GREAT GREAT GREAT VID!!!! BTW I bought a bunch of videos on to help me understand the butterfly better and no one has even come close to demonstratiing and explaing the basic as well as Marcelo. MGINACTION ROCKS!

Great video as always!  Marcelo is very specific about pushing out the middle of the thigh with his foot on this and similar sweeps, as opposed to having his foot down by the mat on the opponent's knee.  I've always been taught to push out low by the mat on sweeps like this.  Does anyone know exactly why Marcelo prefers to kick out in the middle of the thigh?  I have no doubt he is correct, I just want to know the mechanics of it all.  Thanks!
