2 Part Lesson — Marcelo elaborates upon the objectives sought after during the Hand-Fight from Standing: [I] Search for inside control of the hands to knock away the opponent's arm for a takedown, e.g. a Single Leg. Be sure to not let your opponent make a grip on your jacket; but if he does, immediately rip his hand away and either look to reset or penetrate back inside his defenses. [II] If you cannot shoot on his legs, win the hand-fight, or make a proactive grip on your opponent's gi, bait him into 2on1 Control by offering up your sleeve to his same-side hand. Once he latches on, immediately cross over with your opposite hand and seize his cross sleeve. Next, strip off his initial grip so you can form the 2on1 and pull him down into your sweeps.
