Hook Sweep vs Body Lock from Turtle > Hip Roll Escape vs Back Control > Back Escape
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo shows back escapes from turtle: If your opponent is behind you and doesn't have Seatbelt Control, you can insert a Reverse Butterfly Hook and fling your opponent on his or her back. Look to immediately attack from the top position to regain tempo in your favor; if your leg is trapped after the Hook-Lift, execute a Turning Pass to escape the Half Guard. If you cannot insert a hook, perform a Granby Roll (Juegeplata, Zogoplata, Reverse Donkeyplata, et al.) to evade the Turtle Position. [07:43] If your opponent has the Seatbelt, try rolling away from his or her base and placing your hips on the mat. Don't bridge up to break the Seatbelt Grip or else you run the risk of allowing room for the hooks. Work pressure against the grip while keeping your weight on the ground. If your opponent rolls you through onto a hook, don't stop rolling; instead, keep the momentum going and re-roll through until your hips touch the floor. Continue breaking the grip and turn over to take the top position.
