Elbow Push Escape vs Side Control
3 Part Lesson -- Paul talks about the idea of a Pseudo-Guard, in the manner of successfully applying frames, blocks, and grips against an opponent's pass after he or she clears your legs: Prevent the Cross-face and redirect your opponent's arm to the opposite side using an X-formation with your forearms. Make a grip behinds the triceps and develop your base up to a full-post for an Elbow-Push Escape from Side Control. [06:15] If your head is caught inside the Crossface, grip your hands together in a flattened frame and utilize a bridge to expand enough room for your legs to recover back inside. [11:05] If you can't get enough space with a bump to frame and escape your hips, use the bridge to loosen the hold over your head so that you may pass it under the cross-facing arm and apply the Elbow-Push.
