3 Part Technique - The Pistol Grip is a cross-sleeve control that will give you dominance without the risk of injury if your opponent forcefully breaks it. Combined with a strong same-side elbow grip, you form 2on1 Control, which is a great set-up for initiating Open Guard and attacking with the Tripod sweep. If your opponent attempts to pass despite being controlled with the 2on1, catch his near leg between yours, and switch from elbow to his belt for the Cross Arm & Belt Sweep from Half Guard. If you miss the half guard and he makes it around to Side Control, use the Cross Arm & Belt Control to reverse him over your hip just the same. If he continues running around you outside of your reach of his belt, simply sit up with the 2on1 control and recover guard for the Cross Arm & Belt Sweep from Butterfly.
