Hand Fighting from Standing, 2on1 from Standing, Pull Guard, Cross Arm and Belt Sweep from Butterfly, Tripod Sweep from Open Guard, 1Leg X Guard Entry from Open Guard, 1Leg X Guard Sweep from 1Leg X Guard
2 Part Technique - Another reliable option for starting a match is to pull Butterfly Guard with 2on1 Control. Grab his wrist with your same-side hand to allow your other hand to grab onto his sleeve and form the Pistol Grip. You may also capture this grip to counter when your opponent tries to reach for your wrist first. Cross his hand under the Pistol Grip and grab onto his elbow while you sit down to mount. If he decides to kneel onto your guard, transition from the 2on1 to Cross Arm and Belt Control for the sweep, tucking your head across his chest and kicking with your butterfly hook. If he chooses to stand, quickly switch to Open Guard before he has a chance to try and break your controls. Scoot your hips close, place your foot on his hip, and grab his ankle with your hand that was holding his elbow. Push his hip away, which will lift his foot off of the mat, and shelf his leg-weight onto your knee. You now have the option of sweeping with the Tripod Sweep, or transitioning to 1Leg X Guard for the 1Leg X Guard Sweep.
