2 Part Technique - Assume Collar & Elbow Control against your opponent's Butterfly and drive your shin across his thigh with the Knee Slide Pass. If he hugs your leg tightly below your knee and prevents you from successfully passing, use your controls to steer him flat onto his back without taking too much weight off of your free leg, and use it's foot to repeatedly kick your trapt leg until it slides free. Do not try to establish the side control by securing a headlock, albeit tempting. Instead, frame against his chest with your arm until you can pummel for Underhook & Head Control. If he hugs around your knee so much so that you can no longer cut it to the outside, implement the Back Step Pass and land on top of his arm so he cannot reverse you with an underhook. Like the Knee Slide, use your free foot to kick your other leg free from his half guard. Be wary of keeping your ankles close together, and run to the North South rather than establish from Side Control.
