Sprawl vs Deep Half Guard Entry
Marcelo instructs Chris on how to deal with Deep Half-Guard: If the opportunity presents itself, take a Far-Side Under-Hook against your opponent's arm as they hug your leg in the Deep-Half; use this as an anchoring point to then help your free leg sprawl away from your opponent's head and create distance. Insert your free-arm as a Cross-Face in between your opponent's head and your hip to team-up with your Under-Hook and help bring your weight even farther away from the far-side; there isn't often a ton of room for this step but you need to make do with what you have available. A good opponent will attempt to interpose a bidirectional attack to undermine your base and force you into a sweep. If you can find a way to take away your opponent's preferred or dominant option beforehand, you will increase your likelihood of stifling their offense and eventually passing their guard.
