Back Step Pass vs Half Guard
Marcelo & Joel help Chris understand some of the finer details involved with executing a proper Back-Step Pass: If you utilize a Cross-Face against your opponent while implementing a Back-Step into your opponent's Reverse Half-Guard, it is imperative that your adequately monitor your base and also your opponent's posture. Keep your opponent's far-shoulder pinned down without lifting your hips away from the mat. Establish a strong Under-Hook and combine it with your cross-facing hand as tightly as possible, even going so far as to obtain a Butterfly-Grip (double palm-to-wrist false-grips). Let your chest help put pressure against your opponent's face so that they encounter difficulty looking into the direction they need to properly turn onto their side for possible counters. Use your free leg to help stomp against your opponent's Reverse-Half as you look to shrimp away and extract your trapped leg. You may want to consider passing to Side-Control first instead of directly transitioning into the Mount in the event that your opponent's bridge is strong enough to reverse your top positioning.
