3-Part Advanced Lesson -- Paul teaches the Twist-Sweep from Half-Guard inspired by similar movements for escaping from a Scarf-Hold: The Twist-Sweep (a.k.a. Giggler, John-Wayne, Knee-Lever, Hip-Shovel, Crow-bar, Pry-Bar, et al.) works best when you can meet your opponent with it while their weight is moving forward for an Over/Under-Hook Pass. [3:42] Prevent external rotation of your opponent's leg by not only sweeping along an arc, but also combining your movement with a switch of your hips toward the opposite side. If your opponent captures your upper body with an Under-Hook & Head-Control, preface your Twist-Sweep by priming them first with a bridging bump in the opposite direction of the twist. Use your arms to block your opponent's far knee and break their posture by directing the crown of their head to the outside. [7:51] If your opponent posts their arm out to stop themselves from getting swept, pummel for an Under-Hook; carefully wrench their knee into internal rotation with your outside foot to help release yourself from Half-Guard and make your way up onto your knees for a Single or Double-Leg.
