1Leg X-Guard Entry, Back-Step Half-Guard Pass Counter
Marcelo gives guidance for countering common counters from Butterfly: If your opponent crosses their feet together after you lift them up with your inside-hook, release their elbow and use your hand to pick their ankles apart while your legs continue working to slide underneath into 1Leg-X. If your opponent doesn't fall off to your side and expose their feet, immediately re-control their elbow with 2on1-Control and attempt another Hook-Lift. If your opponent is able to free their arm and they begin back-stepping, cinch around their waist with your nearside arm to control their hips so that you can pummel your foot under their leg and Hook-Sweep to get on top.
