Advanced Lesson Part 1 of 2 -- Marcelo takes down an opponent that is reluctant to hand-fight: Tracking your opponent's hands from the standing neutral position is a great way to stay ahead in defending many of their offensive options; since most attacks involve grabbing onto your body, monitor your opponent's hands with yours preemptively places an active barrier in between you and their potential targets. However, if your opponent is successfully keeping their hands away from you, opt to close the distance and establish a clinch position. You can allow your opponent to gain an under-hook on you, just as long as your head dominates the space on that side you allow their arm to get underneath your own. Use your forehead as a post against their shoulder to prevent them from gaining a more powerful advantage with their under-hook; meanwhile, look to secure wrist control over their opposite arm or at least keep it from grabbing onto you from that side. Commit a tight grip around their under-hooking arm by grabbing their triceps from the outside, and also using your elbow to pinch and bite down onto their elbow as you penetrate underneath them with a shot. Step forward with your leg opposite to their under-hook while allowing your trailing leg to cut underneath your hips and follow-through as you drag your opponent across your shoulder into a Fireman's Carry (a.k.a. Kataguruma, Shoulder-Wheel Throw). Successful execution of this technique involves keeping ahold of your opponent's under-hook and shooting for a High-Crotch with your free arm as you pull your opponent overhead. Dump your opponent more in front of you rather than more behind to prevent possible counters and fling them off of your High-Crotch arm so they cannot trap it with a Crucifix. Keep ahold of their arm throughout the take-down to aid in establishing top position and consolidating a form of Side-Control.
