Advanced Lesson Part 1 of 2 -- Marcelo shows his class the correct way to escape from the Seat-Belt: If your opponent fastens the Seat-Belt Control around your torso, always keep at least one hand dedicated towards defending against a potential choke by securing a grip around their over-hooking arm. If your same-side/near-side hand is grabbing their choking-arm, you can pinch your far-side elbow down onto their under-hooking arm to help monitor its movement; use this pinch to help trap your opponent and induce them into roll towards the outside. Mid-roll, lift your near-side knee up to block your opponent from following your hips with their hooks when you land down facing up. Maintain a tight defense against their Seat-Belt by continuing to grip their choking-arm with your hand(s) while also keeping your weight on the mat; raise your hips may allow your opponent a chance to recover their hooks if you happen to make room for them underneath your body. Turn hard towards their feet with quick, low, and short bursts until their grip loosens up enough for you to take top position. When you establish Side-Control, remember to protect yourself your opponent's Under-Hook by keeping your forearm tight against their hip-line.
