Marcelo devises several sparring scenarios involving set conditional positions and situational starts: Students begin in Side-Control without grips or forearm-frames, only hands posted; the bottom player should start with their feet off the mat so as to readily block an immediate Knee-on-Belly attack once the bell rings. [1:45] They start up on the feet with one partner caught in a Single-Leg; the roll starts once the takedown has been attempted and hips contact the floor. [3:13] Same set-up as previously shown with the standing single, except this time the person taken down must fight to get back up, even if it means exposing their back. He advises everyone to never jump below the hips in order to prevent catastrophic injuries. [5:36] Starting on the ground inside Closed Guard, the top player begins with control over of their partner's hands at the beginning of the round.
