Knee Inside vs De La Riva Hook > Back Step Reset vs De La Riva > Back Step Pass
3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo defends the Berimbolo and applies his Back-Step sequence: After standing to break open your opponent's Closed Guard, stand in a posture that kills the Delariva-Hook; point your knee towards the outside and control the opposite leg. Keep your balance by bouncing around on your free foot and pivoting around your grip on the belly. Prevent the opponent from kicking out your base or kicking you overhead with their floating leg. You can reset the position out of the Back-Step by spinning inward and pointing your knee. You may also work to slip your trapped leg through the guard and finish the Back-Step Pass. [04:57] When you reset out of the Back-Step, vault over top of your opponent's pendulating leg and land in the ¾-Mount. You can cross your knee with an Underhook to pass or force yourself into the Mount position. You may also hop directly over the leg from the Back-Step position into the Three-Quarter Mount with the Reset. [09:20] If you find good balance, you can use your free leg to kick yourself out of the Back-Step and land with a Reverse Underhook in Side Control. Whenever you cannot control your opponent's head to establish the pass, run yourself N/S and use your hips to help keep the opponent down.
