2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo defends a leg attack: If your opponent falls away from the standing Closed Guard to entangle your legs, be prepared to high-step up and out of their grasp. Bring your knee to your shoulder as the opponent switches to the Matrix Guard (K-Guard, Squirrel Guard, Cross Guard, et al.) or turns for a Kneebar. If your foot gets caught in the middle, step off to the same side and push the opponent's hips down. Look to control the upper body and pass to topside finish. [04:18] If you fall down with your foot hovering above the opponent's stomach, clear the knee-line and put weight on your foot on the same-side. Fight the opponent's top leg to stay heavy so that you can latch onto the upper body for a pass.
