2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo demonstrates a signature entry into groundwork he employs at the very onset of a match: If you cannot readily win advantageous grips while standing, latch onto your opponent's jacket with Collar & Elbow Control and place your head below your opponent's. Pull your opponent forward as you sit down and execute a Short Hook Sweep; elevate with a Butterfly Hook and more importantly, block your opponent from stepping forward and finding base by stepping your foot onto his or her leg. Once on top, switch for an Underhook if it is available, otherwise run around to North/South. [04:00] If your opponent leans away from your Guard Pull/Sweep attempt, switch your Butterfly Hook to the opposite leg and lift it up onto your shoulder for X-Guard. Knock the opponent backwards or sit-up with the leg for Joga-fora-no-Lixo. Remember to either pull your arm out of a potential triangle, or insert your knee inside to avoid the submission threat.
