3 Part Lesson — Marcelo advocates the "Dead Frog" technique against Arm-Triangle Chokes from the Front Headlock: [I] If you are caught underneath your opponent's sprawl with your head and arm captured, don't give him or her the space to sink deeper around your neck for an Arm-Triangle Choke (D'Arce, Xãolin, Brabo, Anaconda, etc). Lay belly-down and splay your legs apart, keeping your elbows locked in tightly under your chest. Prevent the opponent from moving their arms or flipping you over until their hold tires. Cautiously begin to pry yourself out of the lock so that you can pry yourself out and scramble up from the position. [II] Anticipate your opponent taking a shot after you escape from the Front Headlock. Remove your feet from reach of an Ankle Pick or Low Single with a quickly timed Sprawl. [III] Don't worry about precision in technique when trying to evade the takedown. Jump, flip, cartwheel, hop, sprawl, or whichever action allows you to react in time.
