2 Part Lesson — Marcelo approaches his opponent and ramps up the intensity to pass: [I] Whether kneeling or standing in front of your opponent's Seated Guard, if you can control his hands and enter into the inside space quickly and forcefully, you can throw off his game much better than giving him time and degrees of freedom in which to react. If standing for greater mobility, control the hands and step inside, in between his legs, and latch onto his upper body with a Collar & Elbow Tie-Up. Continue the forward movement by driving your knee across his lap toward the outside and force your body weight into the Side Control. [II] If your opponent stops your momentum by dropping onto your ankle with a Reverse De La Riva or Spiral Guard, keep your base low and work your leg free by wiggling the hook before launching forward with a Knee Cut Pass. Since you're landing next to his side without establishing an upper body control beforehand, look for any means to stay on top in Side Control or North/South.
