Elbow Push vs Stacking Pass, Elbow Push Escape vs Side Control to Straight Armbar
2-Part Advanced Lesson -- Marcelo threatens a possible finish while at least granting himself an escape: If your opponent attempts to bypass your legs with a Scoop-Grip; e.g a Single-Legged Stacking Pass, capture a hold onto their exposed triceps and apply a strong stiff-arming frame against their forward pressure. Redirect your opponent's weight across your body towards the far-side while sitting up onto an elbow and then your hand. If they continue to circle around towards North/South, block their hips with your head as you rise up. You may be able to reverse your opponent with a modified Fireman's-Carry or simply evade the position back to neutral. [2:30] Remember to keep your head held up high against your opponent's rotation during the Elbow-Push Escape; don't let your head turn downward or face your body prone while attempting your counter. If you feel your opponent's weight pressing down on top of your shoulders, scoot away with a sit-out and recapture their nearside-arm with a Reverse Over-Hook. If you can maintain control over their wrist, you may be able to pull off a Straight-Armbar (Wakigatame, Fujiwara-Armbar, et al.); otherwise, take top position.
