Prefacing your Attacks with Postural Tension using a Collar Tie
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo disrupts his opponent's posture to gain initiative: If your opponent has good base and is ready to handle your attacks from the Seated Butterfly Guard, preempt your attack by latching onto his head with a strong cross Collar Tie (n.b. don't pull your opponent down with a regular collar tie; you won't be able to frame away if things go awry). When the opponent postures up to alleviate the pressure on his head, immediately press forward with your attack -whether it be a Guard Entry, Sweep, or Takedown. The same principle of building tension in your opponent's posture can also be utilized while standing up against the Seated Guard; snap your opponent's head down and hold it there until you sense pressure in the opposite direction.
