Part Lesson — Marcelo decisively removes obstacles to his Seated Single Leg Sweep: [I] If your opponent tries to prevent you from coming up with a Single Leg from the Seated/Butterfly-Guard Position by pressing on your head/face before you can perform a technical lift with proper base, quickly swat off his hands to help realign your upright posture and successfully pick up his leg for the Single-Leg-Takedown by Running-The-Pipe. [II] If your opponent is persistent in pushing on your (fore)head and against your neck, swipe off his posts but keep a hold of his wrist while you try to come up off the mat. Aim for the place where you know your opponent is repeatedly going back to after you initially or even secondarily remove his hands. Isolate the wrist of his Near-Arm (i.e. a Cross-Grip) to buy yourself an uninterrupted interval in which to stand up with control. [III] It is important to lean into the opponent's leg as you rise to help yourself gain the forward momentum necessary in making his leg "feel light"; do not grab his wrist and pull back as you will be fighting your own body along with your opponent's weight to come up.
