3 Part Lesson — Marcelo escapes Standing Back Control with a "Slow Shoulder Throw": [I] If standing with your opponent on your back, fall to your Escape-Side (exposed shoulder), bridging your back to the mat. If your opponent stays tight around your waist, force his knee between your legs into Half Guard and fight for an Underhook to recover back your Guard. If you can escape your hip away from his weight, snake your legs around his hip for 1Leg X-Guard and finish with any sweep. [II] If your opponent isn't square against your back while standing, remain on your feet and tug on his arm until he falls in front of you into Closed Guard. [III] Remember to remove your crossed arm from your opponent's grips as soon as possible when you try to shake him around to the front. If your opponent locks on a Body Triangle, you will have to go the ground and take your time.
