Breaking the Closed Guard → Arm Pull vs Over Hook from Closed Guard → Over Under Pass vs Half Guard
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo dons a Purple Belt in honor of World Prematurity Day: [I] Utilize a Standing Guard Break to open your opponent's Closed Guard and force yourself into Half Guard with an Underhook for an Over/Under Pass. [II] If your opponent challenges your Underhook and you lose control over the distance, drop back down to the mats (safely); drive your shoulder forward and roll your forearm outside to escape his Whizzer. If you feel stable, you can swing your arm out and let him fall, working to pass with more distance. When you hold someone up while they are still in Closed Guard, make sure to bend slightly forward to avoid letting them topple over you.
