Fundamentals Class Warm-Up Part 2
2 Part Drill — Paul demonstrates for his class the proper movements for the forward and backward somersault: [I] The important thing to remember when executing the forward roll in Jiu-Jitsu (or Judo) is to keep your back leg straight upon impact with the mat; although tucking your leg back (as in Aikido) helps you stand up quickly, it defeats the more important purpose of dissipating the energy of the fall into the mat. [II] Make the backward roll easier on yourself by taking your head out of the way as you roll over your shoulder.
