2 Part Technique - Standing is the most successful way to break the opponent's Closed Guard. Often, the opponent may attempt to slow the pace of the match in his favor, or might be up on points. Once you stand, he will close his guard tightly, which will cause his body to be attached to yours. Use this in your favor by picking the opponent up and using gravity to help you break his guard. If the opponent wraps his arms around your upper body to prevent you from using your hands on his knees, push instead of his hips.
