Sit Up Escape vs Side Control, Hook Sweep from Butterfly, Collar and Elbow Control Short Hook Sweep from Butterfly, Hook Sweep vs Bodylock, Back Down Guard Recovery vs Bodylock from Side Control
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo professes the ins-and-outs of counterattacking a near-pass: [I] The upright posture while playing Seated Guard has the added benefit of placing you in an ideal position for resisting a sudden pass attempt; if your opponent can't place your shoulders on the mat, he can not establish his top control for points: Wedge your near-side arm into the opponent's neck and post against his pressure with the far-side. Before he reorients, insert your feet back in between his legs from the outside by hook or crook. Once set, pummel an underhook and sweep him with a Hook Sweep; if you can't pummel in, resort to Collar & Elbow Control for the sweep. [II] If playing off of your back, it is important to meet your opponent halfway when he passes suddenly by sitting up to your hand and framing against his neck with your forearm. If he posts out against your Collar & Elbow Control Hook Sweep, pummel under his arm for Underhook & Head Control and kick out his knee for the Short Hook Sweep. [III] If your opponent keeps your Butterfly Guard folded when you reinsert your hooks, either whip him over/behind you with a Hook Lift or, at the very least, force him to let go of his bodylock so you can pummel back inside for control and a sweep.
