2 Part Technique - One of the most important keys to the Hook Sweep from Butterfly with Collar & Elbow Control is the detail concerning your opponent's ability to post his hand to the mat in prevention of the sweep. Avoid letting him block your Hook Sweep by shoving his elbow tightly into his side as you slip underneath and lift for the sweep. Whenever you apply a technique, have a plan B prepared for the most common successful reaction from your opponent. In the case of the Hook Sweep, we know the arm posting to the mat may happen; when it does, snatch both of his feet under your arms and sweep him back with the Ankle Pick Sweep from Single-Leg X-Guard.

I was never taught to get my toes on the ground to create that extra lift/leverage - I found once i started to do that this sweep was almost unstoppable so long as u control their posting arm.

Thanks, I needed that lesson. Often my butterfly sweep fails and I end up in the position that you describe.
