2 Part Technique - You must have your next move prepared, even when your original plans fall through. Marcelo provides two examples of where he loses his position, but recovers quickly because he was ready and had an answer prepared. The Collar & Elbow Control Hook Sweep from Butterfly Guard is one of his staple moves, however if his opponent is quick to fold it, Marcelo swiftly answers back before things get worse by preventing the underhook and performing the Hip Roll Escape. Also, if Marcelo is threatened with a Guillotine Choke against his Butterfly Guard, the best option is to bail from the position by Hook Lifting his opponent over. If he is still holding on, make sure to roll to the side that keeps your head high, and not under the danger of the choke.
