3 Part Technique - 2on1 Control is Marcelo's preferred method of attack when starting a match on your feet. The 2on1 not only allows Marcelo to shoot in for a Single, but also lets him pull safely into his guard. To gain the control, dominate the hand-fight by keeping your hands above your opponent's, and avoid letting him make any grips that prevent you from establishing the cross sleeve pistol grip. If he does happen to make a grip on your collar, immediately break it off before he makes a complementary grip and tuck his hand under your wrist. You may need to circle away and use your elbow to parry his free hand from interfering until you can break and make the 2on1. Look to shoot on his lead leg underneath the 2on1, use the control to force him to step close enough to reach it. If he's a good wrestler, pull guard by stepping on his hip on the same side as the 2on1, and set your butterfly hooks to help follow him as he circles. If he's standing, use your hook to kick him onto your 1-Leg X Guard Sweep; if he knees, work for the Cross Arm Belt Sweep.
