2 Part Lesson -- Paul demonstrates a classic reversal from Closed Guard commonly known as an Elevator Sweep: Begin by breaking down your opponent's posture inside your Closed Guard; knock away any posts on your torso while pulling with your legs to bend your opponent forward into a clinch. Apply an Overhook & Collar Tie to hold your opponent down as you angle your hips outside toward the opponent's trapped arm. If your opponent steps up to take away the shift you've created with your hips, switch your alignment to the opposite side and pummel your foot under his or her raised knee. Use this inserted Butterfly Hook to elevate your opponent into the direction of his or her compromised arm inside your Overhook. Use your bottom leg to swipe out your opponent's base to help stay close and stabilize the top position with the Mount. [02:52] Alternatively, you can bring the opponent up off of his or her haunches while held inside your Closed Guard to entwine your legs around his or her knees from the outside in as Grapevines (esoterically, "Lebell Guard"). Angle your hip while extending your hooks to whip under the opponent's leg for a Butterfly Hook. If you need more momentum to finish the sweep, move your hips back to the other side and place you second Butterfly Hook inside so that you may then extend the opponent's weight away and fall to the side with control.
