Foot Wipe Escape
Drill 1 of 3 — Paul has his students work on two forms of Open-Guard Recovery. In the first movement, a standing partner performs a leg drag by grabbing onto a single shank and crossing it toward the opposing side. The guard player must utilize his or her free leg to step on the opponent's hip and help bring back their crossed leg into a squared-up position. In the second variation, the standing partner throws both legs to one side and steps forward, threatening Knee-On-Belly pressure with their shin against the body. The bottom player must frame against the leading edge of the the pressure, in this case the shin/shank (lower leg), and execute a hip escape to make room for the Foot-Wipe Recovery back to Open-Guard.
